The Cafe on the Edge of the World Discussion Guide

After the Cafe

The questions on the café menu weren’t meant to be answered all at once.
They were meant to linger.

What follows are a few invitations—for quiet reflection, honest conversation, or both.

Use them on your own, with a book club, or with someone you trust.

There are no right answers.
Only the ones that feel true.

The Questions:

Why am I here?

  • How does this question feel when it’s abstract—about people in general?
  • How does it change when it’s about you?

Do I fear death?

  • If so, what do I fear not having done—or not having lived?
  • If not, why do I think that is?

Am I fulfilled?

  • Where in my life do I feel most fulfilled right now?
  • Where do I feel least fulfilled?

If I had to name my Purpose For Existing today—without needing to be right—what might it be?

  • Think of a time you felt fully alive.
  • What were you doing? Who were you with?
  • What does that moment suggest about your Purpose For Existing?

Where is my time going?

  • What in my life feels like an “incoming wave”—something that takes energy without giving much back?
  • What feels like an “outgoing wave”—something that carries me toward what matters?

If I didn’t have to prove anything to anyone, how would I want to spend a typical day?

  • What part of that life could I begin living now—rather than “someday”?
  • If my life stayed exactly the same for the next five years, what would I most regret not changing?
  • What is one thing that matters enough to me that I’d like to be able to say:
I did it. I’m doing it.

Where am I treating the situation as fixed—when it might be movable?

  • What is one small “golf ball” I could move?

One Last Question

Before you put this book down, take a moment to answer this—just for yourself:

  • Why am I here?

There’s no need to be perfect or complete.
For now, just begin.
