Til Schweiger to direct and star in “Das Café am Rande der Welt“ film
Rat Pack Film Production in partnership with Til Schweiger and his company Barefoot Films are bringing the film version of the perennial bestseller, Das Café am Rande der Welt, to the big screen. The film, based on author John Strelecky’s “Story about the Meaning of Life”, will be shot in Berlin, Munich, and the Uckermark in Brandenburg.
In addition to Schweiger, who will play the role of cafe owner Mike, Tim Oliver Schultz is starting in the role of John, and Paula Kalenberg in the role of Casey. Readers have passionately connected with the cafe story, propelling it to “Bestseller of the Year,” six straight times in its category. It has sold over four million copies worldwide.
Author John Strelecky expressed his excitement about the project, saying “It’s really an incredible honor to work with such a talented group of people. Over the years I’ve received many offers to turn the Das Café am Rande der Welt story into a movie. When Producer Alexandra Prochazka approached me, I knew I’d found someone who really understood the essence and energy of the book. She was adamant that the aspects of the story which fans of the book are so connected to, would inspire even more people on their personal journey through the medium of film. And Til is such a genius at making his films emotional masterpieces. After watching his movie ‘Honig im Kopf,’ I knew the cafe story would be in great hands with him directing.”
